Dr. Kelly Miller provides acupuncture services for the Kansas City community. Dr. Miller is Board Certified since 1995 and has continuing education in acupuncture since that time. Dr. Miller utilizes both needle and non-needle techniques including electrical acupuncture. Acupuncture is helpful in over 2,000 conditions. It is an excellent adjunctive therapy for many pain syndromes such as migraines and other type headaches, neck and back pain, shoulder, hip, knee and other extremity pain, as well as many respiratory illnesses such as COPD, asthma, allergies and sinusitis; digestive illnesses such as constipation, gastritis, esophagitis, irritable bowel syndrome and acid reflux; genitourinary illnesses such as hyperactive bladder, prostatitis or dysmenorrhea. It is also effective for mild to moderate depression, anxiety and insomnia, as well as addictions to drugs, alcohol, tobacco and food.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a two-way bipolar electromagnetic connection between some 361 known surface-skin points and 73 channels of energy (called chi) connecting the organs and tissues in the body. Acupuncture is credited to have been developed by the Chinese over 4,000 years ago. However, there is evidence that suggests this knowledge may be much older and somewhat universal to many ancient cultures.

Accupuncture points may be stimulated by various means including finger pressure (Shiatsu), needles, microcurrent (electro- acupuncture, non-piercing needle (TeiShin), and heat (moxabustion). In our practice, we use electro-acupuncture in most cases. Needle acupuncture is performed with disposable stainless steel needles that are thread-like in diameter.

Acupucture is a treatment provided by Waldo Rehabilitation, Health and Wellness for the Kansas City area. The three levels of treatment of acupuncture are pain control, formulae, and classical. Formulae acupuncture is more associated with Chinese-style acupuncture. There are over 2,000 conditions that have formulaes (treatment of specific conditions recorded that have proven effective. Classical acupuncture is more associated with Japanese-style acupuncture and involves balancing the bilateral 12 major meridians (energy channels) each treatment. In our practice we utilize all three treatment methods.

Kansas City Acupuncture treatment picture 2 Acupuncture is a great compliment to chiropractic care. Chiropractic enhances the electrical flow along the pathways of the nervous system, while acupuncture enhances the electrical flow of energy along the pathways of the meridian system. It is this electrical energy flow that controls all functions of the body and precedes all chemical changes occurring within the body.

Over 2,000 conditions have been documented to benefit from acupuncture treatment; too many to list here. However, the following is a brief list from A to Z; arthritis, Bell's Palsy, constipation, dysmenorhea, eye problems, fatigue, gastric problems, hay fever, insomnia, joint problems, knee problems, lung problems, migraines, numbness, obesity, paralysis, quinsy, rheumatism, sciatica, travelsickness, ulcer, vertigo, writer's cramp, exeroderma, yawning and zang organs.

Results and treatment lengths will vary depending on the seriousness and chronicity of the condition. However, positive result will usually be seen within six treatments. Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with other complimentary treatments such as chiropractic, physical therapies, homeopathy, Chinese herbology, nutrition, exercise and behavior modifications.
